The United Nations General Assembly on March 25, 2026 adopted a resolution calling for reparations and political recognition of historical wrongs for the transatlantic trafficking and enslavement of African people.

The resolution, drafted with leadership from Ghana and supported by 123 member states, urges apologies, dialogue on reparatory measures, and actions like restitution of cultural artifacts, though it is not legally binding.

In the vote, only three countries, the United States, Israel, and Argentina, voted against the resolution, while 52 countries abstained, including the United Kingdom and many European Union members.
